Couch to 5K

My friends run. I don’t. I dance. Ask me to run and I can do a quick dash but I cannot go for longer than a minute. maybe. But my friends run. And some family members started to run. And the skinny people all run. After seeing a noticeable transformation in all of these people, I decided to take on the challenge. My friend mentioned an app called ‘Couch to 5K.’ It’s a 5K trainer that trains for 30min/day x3/week. The first few weeks are okay. Running for a minute, walking for 2 repeat. . . Then week 4 started… Jog for 3 min, walk 90sec, Jog for 5 min?????, walk for 2.5min repeat. Talk about lowering self esteem when ya can’t run for 5 minutes. But then I started week 5. Yesterday I started week 5. . .

“Brisk 5 min walk (warmup), jog for 3/4mile (or 8min), walk for 1/2mile (or 5 min), jog for 3/4 mile (or 8 min), walk for 5 min cooldown”

BLAH!? 8 min?? Here’s the sad part. I converted the 3/4mile to the km that my treadmill insists on. 3/4mile = 1.2km. I started running at .48km and after 8 min I was barely at 1.2km. . . I was supposed to be at 1.7km! I have noticed the timer on my phone goes faster than the timer on the treadmill. I could start my 30min app 3 minutes after the treadmill timer starts and still be finished 10 seconds before the 30 minutes is up on the treadmill. This makes me wonder if I’m getting accurate information. Today, I am supposed to be doing Week 5: Day 2. . . which suddenly asks me to jog for 20 BLOODY MINUTES!!!! What a dick. This app is a jerk. Will I do it? ((long thoughtful pause))… I guess so. I will try. I will probably not make it the full 20 minutes since I couldn’t run the full 8 minutes yesterday, but I will try!! And my friend is with me and that should hopefully be good motivation. Today will be different. I will download the Nike +Running App and see my true results.

    Thank goodness for the Nike + Runner app! I found out that the treadmill time is wrong and the distance measurement is also! Instead of running for 2.6km I actually ran 3! . . well, ran and walked. Mostly running. I walked 5 minutes for warm up and 5 minutes for cool down . and about 2 minutes of ‘catch my breath’ in between.

    In the nicest way possible, knuckle down and get it done. You can do it. Run slower if needs be. Take more walk breaks uf you need. Go at your pace. It will get easier, honest 😉

      Thanks y’all. I managed to reach my goal. A mile but my nike runner app was screwing up so I don’t know my time. I think 10 min or less? It was pretty hard after that. It didn’t help that pressed the emergency stop button on accident when I got my breath back. :p
